About the AsiaFlux Conference
Established in 1999, AsiaFlux is a regional research network dedicated to advancing the understanding of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals across Asia. Using eddy covariance flux towers, remote sensing, and ecosystem modeling, AsiaFlux has made substantial contributions to regional and global carbon cycle science and serves as a key partner within the global FLUXNET network.
AsiaFlux brings together scientists from universities and research institutions across Asia to investigate the exchanges of carbon dioxide, water vapor, and energy between terrestrial ecosystems and the atmosphere, spanning daily to inter-annual time scales. The network supports sustainable development and climate action by promoting scientific collaboration, capacity building, and open data sharing throughout the region. It also plays a vital role in underpinning credible Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems, thereby supporting countries in meeting their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
AsiaFlux (http://www.asiaflux.net/) was established in 1999 as the Asian arm of FLUXNET, the worldwide flux network. Its objectives include fostering collaborative research and developing datasets on carbon and water cycles in key Asian ecosystems; organizing workshops and training programs on global change science; and cultivating the next generation of scientists equipped with interdisciplinary skills and international perspectives.
Over the past two decades, AsiaFlux has grown into a regional research network comprising 28 member countries. More than 100 flux observation towers have been established across Asia, covering diverse terrestrial ecosystems. AsiaFlux researchers have made significant advances in flux observation, remote sensing, and ecosystem modeling, contributing substantially to quantifying the global carbon balance and improving understanding of the functions of Asian terrestrial ecosystems.
Looking forward, AsiaFlux will continue to lead flux-related research, support sustainable development in Asia, and provide an open platform for collaboration between field researchers and data providers, as well as remote sensing and modeling researchers and data users, fostering communication and scientific integration across disciplines.
