Field Excursions

About Field Excursions

Join one of four carefully designed field excursions on 28 November 2026, following the AsiaFlux 2026 Conference. Participants will visit leading environmental research stations, observe eddy covariance flux towers and greenhouse gas monitoring systems, and explore Thailand’s unique ecosystems and cultural heritage. Transportation, lunch, and guided tours are included. Registration is required, and each participant may select only one excursion.

Route 1: Urban Flux

Bang Kachao Urban Forest & Green Area

Explore one of Bangkok’s largest urban green spaces and learn how eddy covariance technology is used to monitor carbon, water, and energy exchanges within an urban ecosystem. Participants will visit the flux observation site at Bang Kachao, followed by a cultural visit to the Grand Palace after lunch at Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market.

Route 2: Mangroves Flux

Laem Phak Bia Environmental Research and Development Project (LERD)

Discover the internationally recognized Laem Phak Bia Environmental Research and Development Project (LERD), where natural wastewater treatment and mangrove ecosystem restoration are integrated for sustainable coastal management. Participants will also visit local aquaculture sites and explore the cultural attractions of Phetchaburi.

Route 3: Forest Flux

Sakaerat Environmental Research Station

Explore the Sakaerat Environmental Research Station, located within the Sakaerat Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve. Participants will visit flux tower research sites in two contrasting tropical forest ecosystems—Dry Evergreen Forest and Dry Dipterocarp Forest—to learn about long-term carbon, water, and energy flux monitoring, forest ecology, and climate change research.

Route 4: Agricultural Flux

Chai Nat Rice Research Center & Rice Flux Site

Visit Thailand’s leading rice research facilities to explore sustainable rice production and greenhouse gas monitoring. Participants will observe rice experimental plots, the Eddy Covariance Flux Tower, methane measurement systems, and innovative Carbon Node technology before visiting the UNESCO World Heritage city of Ayutthaya.
